A real Zappi charger, fitted by New Gen

The Zappi, honestly

Who it's right for, and who it isn't

The Zappi (and Zappi Glo) is our default EV charger, and for most homes it's a genuinely good choice: smart, solar-aware, and built by myenergi, a well-established UK brand. It's not the only option, and we won't pretend it's the only one worth having: if your setup suits a different charger, or you don't have or plan to get solar, we'll say so. We install across Bournemouth, Poole and the wider Dorset area.

A Zappi EV charger installed on a wall

The Zappi's real edge

Charge your car from your own roof, and on 8p Octopus nights

This is the part we rarely see other local Zappi fitters talk about. The Zappi and Zappi Glo are built to work with solar, charging from surplus generation during the day, and the Glo pairs with Octopus Intelligent Go for roughly 8p/kWh overnight charging. If you already have solar, or want it, this is where a Zappi genuinely earns its keep.

  • Zappi / Zappi Glo: our default charger, solar-aware by design
  • Octopus Intelligent Go compatible: around 8p/kWh overnight with the Glo
  • Charges directly from surplus solar generation during the day
  • EcoFlow PowerPulse offered as an alternative for greater automation

What it actually costs

What a Zappi install actually costs, and what changes it

Zappi 7kW home install

Confirmed at survey

Cable run, consumer-unit/earthing works and tethered vs untethered all affect the price

Bundled with a solar/battery install

Lower than standalone

Fitting the Zappi at the same time as solar/battery keeps the combined cost down

Real Zappi prices are hard to find in this market. We'd rather be honest than hide behind a form. Your exact figure is confirmed at a free survey.

Which Zappi, and is it better than an Ohme

Tethered vs untethered, 7kW, and Zappi vs Ohme, decided honestly

We'll tell you when a Zappi isn't the right call.

Zappi tethered

Cable built in, plug and go. The simplest day-to-day option for most homes.

Best for most homeowners

Zappi untethered

Bring your own cable, tidier on the wall, flexible if you change car.

Best for a neater install

Zappi vs Ohme

Both are strong smart chargers. Zappi's edge is solar/Octopus integration. Ohme has its own strengths on tariff flexibility. We'll recommend honestly, not by default.

Depends on your priorities

For a solar-owning or solar-planning household, the Zappi (or Zappi Glo) is usually the right call. If you have no interest in solar, we'll talk you through the alternatives rather than default to our own brand. 7kW is the practical ceiling for most UK homes, since a faster 22kW charger needs a three-phase supply that few houses have, so we'll confirm your actual supply at survey rather than quote a speed you can't use.

From survey to switch-on, and do you need a driveway?

Free survey

We check your supply, off-road parking and cable run before quoting. Zappi installs need off-road parking.

DNO / earthing checked

We handle the DNO notification and confirm earthing requirements for you.

Install, typically in a day

A standard Zappi fit is usually completed in a single day.

App setup & handover

We commission the charger and set up the myenergi app, including Octopus Intelligent Go if you're on it.

Ted Hadley

May 2025

I had a 3.5kw solar installation in February 2025, we are extremely satisfied with the system that was recommended by New Gen. The installation was completed within a day, the team were professional and courteous. My neighbour saw the work that I've had done and has gone and done it too.

I saw excellent reviews and wanted to use a local company. I was definitely not disappointed. From the start of the quote process right through to the final day of installation, I was impressed by every level of the staff at New Gen. They were not only professional but very friendly and helpful, even helping me work out Apps and the best electric company to deal with.

Great service from New-Gen! Very personal and very reasonably priced. Had 24 panels installed with inverter and 2 batteries. All working perfectly.

Is a Zappi actually any good? Is it worth it?

For most homes, yes. It's a well-built, solar-aware smart charger from an established UK brand. It's not the only good option, and if your setup doesn't suit it, we'll say so rather than default to our own preferred brand.

How much does it cost to install a Zappi?

It depends on your cable run, any consumer-unit or earthing works, and tethered vs untethered. We confirm the exact price at a free survey. Fitting it alongside a solar/battery install keeps the combined cost down.

Does the Zappi work with Octopus, and can it charge from my solar?

Yes. The Zappi Glo pairs with Octopus Intelligent Go for roughly 8p/kWh overnight charging, and the Zappi is built to charge from surplus solar generation during the day. This solar-integration angle is the part we rarely see other local Zappi installers cover.

Which is better, Ohme or Zappi?

Both are strong smart chargers. The Zappi's edge is its solar and Octopus Intelligent Go integration. Ohme has its own strengths on tariff flexibility. We'll recommend honestly based on your setup, not by default to one brand.

Who installs Zappi chargers near me, and can I trust them?

We're MCS and NAPIT certified (NAP-78112), RECC registered, carry an insurance-backed workmanship warranty (IWA) and £2m public liability, and we're rated 5.0★ on Google. Unlike some Zappi-specific pages online, we have a real phone number and real local accreditations.

What's the lifespan and warranty, and what happens if it faults?

The Zappi is a well-established, reliable unit, and our workmanship is covered by an insurance-backed warranty (IWA), cover that doesn't disappear if we ever went under. Manufacturer warranty terms apply on top of our own workmanship cover.
