Is it actually worth it?
Is a home battery worth it, honestly?
For most Dorset homes, yes, a battery is worth it roughly 95% of the time, and we'll tell you honestly on the rare occasions it isn't. What to consider: a battery earns you back the most when your usage is spread through the evening and you're on (or can move to) a time-of-use tariff. It earns you the least if your household is mostly out and using power in the middle of the day, when solar is already covering you. We size every battery off your real annual consumption, and every one we fit is modular and stackable, so you can add more capacity later instead of overspending up front.

What it costs, and what size you actually need
Most homes take a 10kWh battery, whether it goes in alongside new panels, as a retrofit to solar someone else fitted, or on its own to soak up a cheap overnight rate. The figures below are our honest starting point. A New Gen engineer confirms the exact size and price at a free survey.
Illustrative only, and never a template quote. Every battery we fit is sized conservatively off your actual annual consumption and is modular, so you can add more later.

Retrofit and battery-only
Already have solar? No panels at all? Both work.
You don't need to be a new-build solar customer to have a battery. We retrofit batteries to existing solar systems, including ones we didn't install, so you can start storing what you're currently exporting for a few pence. And if you have no panels at all, a battery-only install still earns its keep: it charges up on a cheap overnight, time-of-use tariff and discharges through the expensive evening rate, so you're storing cheap electricity instead of buying it at peak price. Retrofit and battery-only work is a big part of what we fit.

Adam Khodabaccus
We recently had solar panels and battery storage installed at our property in Poole by New Gen Renewables, and I couldn't be more impressed with the service we received. From the very start, the team were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. They took the time to explain everything clearly and made the whole process feel smooth and stress-free. We're already seeing the benefits of going solar.
Neil Smith
Great service from New-Gen! Very personal and very reasonably priced. Had 24 panels installed with inverter and 2 batteries. All working perfectly.
How much does home battery storage cost?
A common 5kW solar + 10kWh battery system starts from £8,825 including scaffold. A battery-only or retrofit-to-existing-solar install is priced individually, because it depends entirely on your existing setup and usage. We'll give you a real figure at a free survey, never a hidden one.
Is home battery storage actually worth it?
For roughly 95% of Dorset homes, yes, and we'll say so honestly when it isn't. It earns you the most if your usage is spread through the evening, on a time-of-use tariff. It earns you the least if your home is largely empty during the day when solar already covers you.
What size battery do I need, and how long will a 10kWh battery last?
Most Dorset homes take a common 10kWh battery, sized conservatively off your real annual consumption. How long it lasts depends on your evening usage. We confirm the exact figure at survey, and every battery we fit is modular, so you can add more later rather than overspend up front.
Can I add a battery to solar I already have, even if you didn't install it?
Yes, we retrofit batteries to existing solar systems, including ones fitted by another installer. If you have no panels at all, a battery-only install still works: it charges on a cheap overnight tariff and discharges through the expensive evening rate.
Which battery is right for me, EcoFlow, Fox, Sigenergy or a Tesla Powerwall?
We install all of them, and we'll be honest about which suits you. EcoFlow is our recommended path for most homes (15-year warranty, weather-prediction AI). Fox ESS is the value option. Sigenergy is the modular, expandable choice. And we're also a Tesla Approved installer if a Powerwall is what you want.
Will I keep power in a power cut?
Most systems let you use the battery until it's empty, but that isn't full continuous backup on its own. For that you need a gateway, which we fit where it's wanted.
Who locally can I trust to install it?
New Gen is MCS and NAPIT certified (NAP-78112), RECC registered, carries an insurance-backed workmanship warranty and £2m public liability, and is rated 5.0 on Google, with 700+ domestic installs completed.
